Free Things to do

Image
Huh, well how do you like those apples?  Here we are on August 15th with only 54 days left.  Who saw that coming?  Half of our wait time has dwindled.   Trivia:  Did you know that I edit the blogs from my work computer but can only add pictures from my personal laptop?  If you don't know, now you know.  Realism of not going to Florida is hitting hard.  There are no deals for Niagara or Buffalo, but I continue to look.  I'd like to go to a place with a pool.  Considering the time of year it'll need to be an indoor pool which drives the price up, of course.  Right now, 3 days somewhat local would cost the same as 10 days in Florida.  That's sad.  But I'll find something that works for us.  It might be what I do best.  This will be the last BLOG edition for awhile, sadly.  Maybe I'll invest time in a family one for January.  I don't think the kids would remember when I did ones for them and it would b...

Cheap Things to do

And suddenly there are only 60 days left.  Just two scant months. I think this one might be a day early, but whatever.  It's close enough. Happy August 8th!  We've made it through the hard part of the waiting. Actually, I'm pretty much resigned to the likelihood that we won't be going to Florida.  The state is an unmitigated disaster and even if we kept to ourselves it's just not worth the risk.  I'm thinking we do a long weekend Buffalo or even Niagara Falls.  Just to get away a little.  Nonetheless, I'm going to do this edition + one other because they'll be relevant whenever we go.       We've agreed that there will be no Disney Parks on this trip and I don't intend to change my mind about that, although you can feel free to try.  However there are some other less expensive options that we could try and occupy our days with.  Not quite free, but super cheap.  How cheap?  We could do 5 of these things for the e...

First Full Day

Image
Happy July 30th and 70 days left until we leave.  This trip is largely going to be Seralago and Old Town, however there are a few must do's that have to be addressed and we'll start on those right away.  By right away, I mean on our first full day.    We are going to wake up from our full and restful sleep ready to take on the world!  If my prediction of the previous day is correct, it'll already feel like we've been there a few days when we get up on Saturday morning.  Also, we'll have slept more than we realize between napping at the pool and our nap in the room, so we'll likely wake up bright and early and feeling pretty good.  And you know exactly where that day will begin, don't you?  Sure you do.   Well I'll have been craving them for 20 months by the time we get there, so this has to be the first stop.  I already know that I'm going to need two extra forks because I'm going to get syrup everywhere!   I'm literally s...

Arrival

Image
Hey baby, it's Tuesday July 20th and that means that there are 80 days left until we leave!  Still seems kinda far away doesn't it?  Don't worry, time is ticking down and experience shows that this will get here faster than we think.  Also, tomorrow is the 21st and the day that border restrictions have been announced for the last 18 months or so.  It turns out that our border is opening but the US border isn't quite yet.  I'm guessing that by August 21st it's a two way street.  We'll see.  Hopefully we'll continue to see things trend in the right direction.     My weight, just for tracking sake is down 4lbs from 10 days ago.  I know that's supposed to be good, but I find it slow and frustrating.   But enough of that; now it's time for us to discuss the first day!  As you know the first day is a little fucked up.  If you forget how fucked up it can be, let me remind you.   Sometimes the first day is not ...

The Voyage

Image
First, sorry I'm a pain in the ass.  Second, happy July 10th!  I hope you have a coffee and are reading this in bed or at least on the couch.  Since the last update I've gone from 205.2LBS to a more manageable 192.5.  Ninety days to make up the last 17.5LBS.  Not bad.   I know, I know, I know.  We've done this.  Multiple times and multiple routes, what other stories are there to tell.  I'm not going to lie, I struggled with this one a lot.  Ultimately, I thought I'd go back in time to civil war times.   First off, the Canadian leg of the trip, from Tottenham to the Queenston Lewiston Bridge in Buffalo.  Buffalo was one of the major crossings for the Underground Railroad.  There are estimated to be between 30 and 40 thousands refugees who crossed into Canada via the Underground Railroad.  The railroad actually ended in Owen Sound and I've been to the museum there.  Sad but cool.   Our objective...

The century mark

Image
Yes.   There are exactly 100 days until we go to Florida.  I initially thought that the hundred day mark was Monday, but it turns out that I suck at calendar math.  Of course, we need travel restrictions lifted to allow us to do this, so the carpet might yet be pulled out from under us.  But I'm choosing to be cautiously optimistic just to change things up.  Weird for me, but I'm going to give it a try.  All updates on restrictions will be found here although they'll probably be old news by the time you read it. Today's date is Tuesday June 29th, incase you too are calendar illiterate.  (This is merely an announcement.)   On July 10th (my parents & Elizabeth and Brian's anniversaries) it'll mark 90 days until we go and it's also the day that I'll reveal our route.  I know what you're thinking, there's not much more that can be said about this stuff, but I aim to find something new for you.   Ten days after that ...
